Did somebody send you a link in Facebook telling you to that an application can see who viewed your profile or your pictures?
And did you really click on that link?
Well, the bad news is you’re a scam victim.
Status updates, Facebook groups, and pages claiming to let users see who has viewed their Facebook profile pages are all scams.
According to Facebook, there is no way for anyone to see who has viewed profile and they won’t let any application to create such function. It’s stated in their Security Page that they’ve prevented others from providing this functionality already and they are working hard to block and remove websites, Pages, and applications that claim to do this.
A typical message reads:
See who viewed your profilee original version 2.0:
now you can see who viewed your facebook profile
And mostly accompanied with a Status update from some of your friends (who unfortunately were victims of this scam already):
“OMG OMG OMG… I cant believe this actually works! Now you really can see who viewed your profile! on [LINK].”
“If you click on the link you are taken to a third-party website which (to the untrained eye) may at first glance appear to still be on the real Facebook site, but is in fact designed to trick you into sharing their link further,” wrote Graham Cluley, a Senior Technology consultant at Sophos, in his blog post.
Cluley suggests,”If you’ve been hit by a scam like this, remove references to it from your newsfeed, and revoke the right of rogue applications to access your profile via Account/ Privacy Settings/ Applications and Websites”.
Remember there is no such application to access your Facebook profile or parts of your profile, even Facebook denied it on their FAQ.
